Joy Sindle/Zimmermann, 76, of East Peoria, IL. died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Saint Francis Hospital on June 6, 2023. She was formerly of Tremont, IL.
Born on June 28, 1946 in Glendale California to Anna Montgomery and James Mongomery. She was the oldest of 6 children. Her parents and her moved to East Peoria IL when she was 1 and she graduated from East Peoria High School in 1964. Shortly after graduating high school, she moved to Venice, California, where she lived until the mid 1970's when she moved back to central IL. After moving back, she attended Barber School. In 1977 she opened Joy's Barbershop in Tremont, where she cut hair for 45 years.
Joy is survived by her son Jeremy (Jessica) Sindle of Morton, IL, stepdaughter Rochelle Zimmermann-Mancini of Fort Myers, FL, sister Janet Montgomery-Connell of East Peoria, IL, brother John Montgomery of East Peoria, IL, brother Jerry (Sandy) Montgomery of Orlando, FL, brother Michael (Theresa) Montgomery of Creve Coeur, IL, and her grandchildren Sebastian, Blake, Max, Olivia, Lexie, Colin, Minah, Brayden, and Aysen.
She was proceeded in death by her mother, father, and brother Terri (Kim) Montgomery of Bonita Springs, FL.
Joys hobbies were traveling, playing cards, fishing, and taking care of her garden in the summertime. She loved good conversation and being surrounded by friends, family (especially her grandkids), and her customers, all of whom she considered her extended family. Getting family together for a night of pizza and cards was probably her favorite way to spend an evening. She was a bit of a card shark and would usually end the night with a smile on her face as she walked away from the card game with everyone's quarters. However, this was the only time she was willing to take anything from others because she lived her life always giving. It would be an easy argument to say she was giving and trusting to a fault but that is what made her a great person and the world needs more of those. She truly loved helping anyone who needed it and giving back to the community.
Davis Oswald Funeral Home, at 328 S Locust St. Tremont IL, will be hosting the visitation from 5-6:45pm and the service from 7-8pm on Thursday June 15, 2023.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation to The Center for Prevention of Abuse at https://www.centerforpreventionofabuse.org/how-to-help/monetary-donations/. Although Joy LOVED getting flowers, the family feels that after her experience the past 2 years she would prefer the funds go towards resources that help others in need.
