Alan Sanders

Alan H. Sanders, 83, of Tremont, passed away, Sunday, December 12, 2021 in his home after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure.

He was born June 17, 1938 in Peoria to John W. and Roberta Sharp Sanders. He first married Judy Arvin in 1963 and they had two children, Steven Hart and Stephanie Hart. He later married Sandra Paine in 1967 and they had two children, Russell Sanders and Tiffany Sanders. He currently had a lady friend of over 22 years, Patricia Baumgarten.

Surviving are his lady friend, Patricia Baumgarten of Peoria, Il; children Steven (Laura) Hart of Morton, Il; Stephanie Hart of Johnsburg, Il; Russel Sanders of Tremont, Il and Tiffany Sanders of Tremont, Il; grandchildren, Mariah (Klint) Cone of Bentonville AR; Emily (Eric) Esser of Morton, IL; Dylan (Taylor Desch) Sanders of Colorado; Kali Sanders of Frankfort, Ky; Patrick (Anna Sauder) Sisco of Bartonville, Il; great-grandchildren, William & Thomas Esser of Morton, Il; Ripley Sanders of Colorado; sister, Sara (Byron “Paddy”) Liles of Vero Beach, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald Sanders.

Alan graduated from Tremont High School in 1956.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He was a member of the Tremont American Legion Post #1236 & the Carpenters Union #237. He worked as a union carpenter for several construction companies for 50 years, most recently retiring from Zobrist Construction in 2004. Alan was on the Tremont Fire Department for 50 years, retiring as Fire Chief in January 2014. He was a member of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and was fire fighter of the year in 1979, 1990, 1991, and 2013 for the Tremont Fire Department. He was a member of the Central Illinois Fire Investigations Association for 28 years, and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Alan was a member of the Tremont United Methodist Church and also attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, Il.

He loved the outdoors and spending time at the family’s cabin. He enjoyed hosting an annual corn roast for family and friends at the cabin. He loved spending time with his family, working in his yard, and loved splitting firewood. He was always willing to help others. He volunteered a lot of his time each year at the Tremont Turkey Festival.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 11:00 AM at the Tremont United Methodist Church with pastor Cathy Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 on Monday, December 27th, 2021 at the Tremont United Methodist Church. Visitation services will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
