Betty Hartzler Obituary

Betty Grieser Hartzler, 96, of Delavan, passed away December 26, 2024 at Villas of Hollybrook in Morton.

She was born August 20, 1928 in Panola to Delbert and Lois Grieser.  She married Melvin “Mel” Hartzler on May 28, 1949 at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church in Delavan, and he passed away October 5, 1994.

Surviving are her children, Ric (Cathy) Hartzler of Delavan, Ruth (Bob) Tomlinson of Bradley, LuAnn (Mike) Dippold of Peoria, Ken Hartzler of Delavan, and Ginger (Don) Matthews of Delavan; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Dale Grieser and one sister, Mary Olosky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, and one brother, Billie.

Betty graduated from Delavan High School and was a homemaker first and foremost.  She and her husband opened the Hartzler Variety Store in Delavan, and both retired in 1992.

Betty loved her family.  She enjoyed attending many basketball and volleyball games for her grandchildren.  She embroidered tea/dish towels for her children and grandchildren and are cherished today.  Betty made each grandchild and great grandchild a baby quilt.  She also generously shared her time knitting hats and booties for premature babies at Threads of Love.  She also enjoyed playing bridge throughout her life.

Her funeral mass will be at 11:30 am Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delavan.  Fr. Geoff Horton will officiate.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:15 am Monday at the church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Delavan. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
