Byron Bright Obituary

Byron “Barney” Bright, 90, of Morton, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his home. 

He was born May 6, 1931 in Mackinaw to Clarence P. and Mable C. Myers Bright.  He married Jane Miesner on November 16, 1952 in Morton, and she preceded him in death.  He later married Joan Litwiller Wilmert on May 27, 1983 in Mackinaw, and she survives. 

Also surviving are two sons, Kim (Linda) Bright of Pekin and Randy (Pam) Bright of Mackinaw; four stepchildren, Kyle (Ellen) Wilmert of Omaha, NE, Michael (Dana) Wilmert of Morton, Steven (Mary) Wilmert of Latrobe, PA, and Marti Noonan of Wylie, TX; 11 step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Jean Stark of Bloomington. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Bright and his wife, Marjorie. 

Byron served in the United States Airforce from October 2, 1951 to September 30, 1955 attaining the rank of A1C. 

He farmed in the Mackinaw area and was a sheet metal fabricator at Morton Metalcraft for 30 years. 

He was a member of Eastside Bible Church in Morton, Mackinaw Masonic Lodge 132, and Mackinaw American Legion Emery Whisler Post 607. 

Byron was an avid woodworker and enjoyed boating and traveling. 

His funeral will be at 10:30 am Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Eastside Bible Church in Morton.  Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:15 am Saturday, also at the church.  Burial will be in Gaines Cemetery in Minier with military honors conducted.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements. 

Memorials may be made to Eastside Bible Church or OSF Hospice.
