Darrell Dickson

Darrell Dickson, 84, of Tremont, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026 at Hopedale Nursing Home.

He was born October 22, 1941 in a farmhouse in rural Tazewell County near the Mclean County line to Raymond and Leola Mallory Dickson.

Surviving are his daughter, Denise (Bill) Watts of Hartsburg; two grandchildren, Devin (Luke Bramwell) Watt of Florida and Dawson (Taelor Caldwell) Watt of Delavan; one great grandson, Theo Watt of Delavan; one nephew, Raymond; two nieces, Paula and Tina; and Mike McFeron, who was like a son to him.

Darrell was a graduate of Hittle Township High School in Armington, where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team. His high school friends and teammates remained lifelong friends that continued to meet periodically for lunch.

After high school, he spent his free time as a lead singer in the band, “D and the Masters 5”. The band played at local clubs and dance halls.  They once got to play with Jerry Lee Lewis.

Darrell was a member of the First Congregational Church of South Pekin, where he served with the church Men’s Club for several years.

He was a farm boy at heart and had a soft spot for all animals including horses, dogs, and cats.  During the last few years, 11 cats found their way into his care. He wouldn’t rest at night until he was sure that all his cats were safely in the beds he had for them in the various farm buildings or in the house.

His funeral will be at 10:30 am Tuesday June 23, 2026 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont.  Pastor Ken Stewart will officiate.  Visitation will be Monday June 22, 2026 at the funeral home from 5-7 pm.  Burial will be in Brooks Grove Cemetery in Stanford. 

In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of South Pekin or Tazewell Animal Improvement of Life Society (TAiLS).
