David DuBois Obituary

David D. DuBois, 91, of Tremont, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Pekin Manor.

He was born August 3, 1934 in Peoria to Herman Joseph and Ardella Darlene Healy DuBois. He married Janet C. Hinman on January 31, 1957 in Bartonville, and she passed away April 9, 2021.

Surviving are three daughters, Colette E. (Richard) Buehl, Nikki A. DuBois, and Jacque L. (Mark) Sutton; one daughter-in-law, Kellie DuBois; five grandchildren, Brittany (Barry) Moldenhauer, Carlie (Nathan) Winterroth, Codie (Ryan Simmons) Dickson, Joshua (Tasha) DuBois, Brooke-Lyn (Mitchell) Dumser; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Myra Carr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell DuBois; his ex-wife, Janet DuBois;  two brothers, Herman “Sonny” DuBois and Donald DuBois; and one sister, Margaret Simpson.

David was a soldier in the United States Army, based at Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK.  He served in the 54th helicopter unit as a helicopter mechanic from 1957-1959. After the Army, David worked at Caterpillar for a brief time before establishing DuBois Autobody in 1960. He realized his dream of owning a Chevrolet dealership in the early 1970’s at Hartter-DuBois Chevrolet in Mackinaw but returned to his true passion of autobody repair shortly after. He shared his passion of the trade by participating in several co-op programs with local high schools.

He was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge, Tremont Lion’s Club, Pekin Moose Lodge, and served on the Tremont Fire Department for over 40 years.  He was a member of the Buffer’s Club that restored the Ahren’s Fox fire truck which is displayed at the Wheels O’ Time Museum in Peoria.  He also restored the Model T and Engine 38 at Tremont Fire Department.

David often mentioned that “Tremont’s   been awfully good to me. Thank you, Tremont!”

A funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.  Fr. Michael Andrejek will officiate. A Masonic service will be at 3:30 pm Tuesday, December 2 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont, followed by visitation from 4 to 6 pm.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
