Deletta Payne Obituary

Deletta M. Payne, 84, of San Jose, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at the home of her daughter in Hartsburg. 

She was born May 22, 1937 in Decatur to Harry and Rose Weaver Marshall. She married Wm. Allen Payne on July 1, 1956 in San Jose, and he survives. 

Also surviving are her children, Tonya (Joe) Sloter of Hartsburg, Scott (Connie) Payne of Riverton, TyLinda (Billy) Blackstock of San Jose, and Stacy (Ralph) Coon of Green Valley; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three on the way; and many loving nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one great-grandson, Daniel; and nine brothers and sisters. 

Deletta had a diverse work history enjoying each position she held. She also received her certification as a chaplain through the Methodist hospital in Peoria. 

She was a faithful pillar in the San Jose Christian Church and the Germantown Hills Christian Church, where she held many positions. She was a member of Euterpians in Mason City. She loved and enjoyed playing pinochle with family and friends, especially the beloved monthly card club. 

Deletta was an accomplished vocalist who enjoyed singing with her family and others making CD’s that are being enjoyed to this day. She participated in many Caterpillar mixed chorus productions and founded and participated in “Growing Paynes for Christ”.   

Her funeral will be at 10:00 am Friday, March 4, 2022 at the San Jose Christian Church. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Thursday, also at the church. Deletta will be lying in state at the church until the funeral. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery rural Emden. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is in charge of arrangements. 

Memorial contributions may be made to San Jose Christian Church or Inner City Mission in Springfield.
