Donald M. Hellman, 87, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Castle Manor Assisted Living in Lincoln.
He was born March 7, 1937 in Lincoln to Harold A. and Margaret Bruns Hellman. He married Donna Bartmann on June 26, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Deanna (John) Baker of Tremont; one daughter-in-law, Katrina Hellman of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Allison (Ezra) Baker-Giovanetto, Cori (Kyle) Shadid, Joshua Hellman, Nick (Alexa) Galluzo, and Jack (Hannah) Galluzo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Darren S. Hellman; and three brothers, Melvin, Norman, and Lloyd.
Don graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955 and served in the United State Airforce for four years.
He worked at Alexander Lumber Company in Normal, Albert Brothers Construction Company in Lincoln, Bloomington Federal/Champion Federal in Bloomington, and Kickapoo Creek Park as a Park Ranger in Lincoln.
Don enjoyed gardening, lawn care, wildlife conservation, loved to eat out at favorite restaurants, and watch high school and college basketball. He was always ready to extend a hand to anyone and introduce himself. He made friends easily and was always concerned more of others over himself.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, where his funeral will be at 11:00 am Saturday, August 24, 2024. Pastor Mark Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 am Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lincoln. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
