Dorothy “Eileen” (Geiger) Herring, 78, of Mapleton, IL, went home to be with the Lord at 12:05 am on Monday, June 28, 2021 at UnityPoint Health, Pekin.
The youngest and only daughter of four children, Eileen was born in Peoria on October 29, 1942 to Carl and Irene Bloom Geiger and grew up in East Peoria with her three brothers Jack, Ray, and Bob. She married Henry “Hank” Herring, her husband of 58 years, on October 20, 1962 in East Peoria, and he survives.
She is also survived by her three sons, William Herring of Pekin, Robert Herring of Mapleton, and Brian (Yvette-deceased) Herring of Pekin; her daughter, Patricia (David) Haymond of Clarksville, TN; her nine grandchildren, Alayna, Jonathan, Christopher, David, Katherine, and Timothy Herring of Pekin, Rebekah, David, and Lorelei Haymond of Clarksville, TN; and her brother, Bob Geiger of The Villages, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Irene Geiger; her daughter, Rebecca Ann Herring at birth; her brothers, Jack and Ray Geiger; and her daughter-in-law, Yvette Herring.
As a teenager Eileen made the most important decision to accept Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while attending a teen camp.
Growing up in church she loved to sing with her beautiful soprano voice in the choir and duets with her husband, especially their favorite hymn “In the Garden”. She was a kindhearted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend with a beautiful smile and a contagious laugh. She enjoyed reading the newspaper and doing crossword puzzles. She is deeply loved and greatly missed by her family and friends, but we know we will see her again.
Eileen was a faithful member of the Mapleton Church where her funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 with Pastor Keith Huff officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, July 5, 2021 and from 10:00-10:45 am before the service on Tuesday, both at the church. Burial will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Mapleton Church.
