Douglas Robbins Obituary

Doug Robbins passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, May 10, at the age of 79.

Doug was born on August 25, 1943, to Mary Robbins Tesch.

He was married to Mara Robbins on October 8, 1982.

He is survived in death by his wife, Mara; his children, Tony and Brenda Robbins, Jared Robbins, and Justin Robbins; and his five grandchildren, Kelsey, Kendra, Janessa, Jared Jr. and Parker.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary; his son, Troy; and his sister, Marilyn.

Doug served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Doug worked in management at Caterpillar for over 40 years. His favorite job, however, was driving semi trucks. In fact, he would take vacations from his job at Caterpillar to drive semi trucks.  He drove for Penske for many years after his retirement from Caterpillar. He also found joy in helping local farmers by hauling grain during the harvest season.

In his downtime, Doug loved spending time at the American Legion Post 318 in Morton. He also enjoyed playing golf and vacationing with his family in Florida. He was an avid Illinois fan and passed on his love of college sports to his sons and grandchildren. He was also known for his volunteer work, especially through his service on the honor guard and by driving a van from St. Louis to Peoria for the St. Jude Run.

He loved his family and friends dearly and will be deeply missed by all who got the privilege to know and love him.

Doug’s family wants to thank Dr. Whitford, Methodist Hospital, Synder Village, Methodist Hospice, and Methodist Home Health for their care and compassion during Doug’s long illness.

Doug’s memorial service will be Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10 am at Glenwood Cemetery in rural Mackinaw, officiated by Pastor Judith Thomas. There will be no visitation prior to the service. There will be a celebration of life immediately following the memorial services at the American Legion Post 318 in Morton. Donations can made to TAPS and/or the American Legion Post 318.
