Edward Van Hoorn Obituary

Edward G. Van Hoorn, 89, of Delavan, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024 at his home.

He was born January 31, 1935 to Eilert and Evelyn (Wieburg) Van Hoorn.  He married Norma J. Connell on February 27, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delavan, and she passed away May 2, 2021.

Surviving are his children, Kathleen (Tom) Myers of Lake Villa, Mary (Chris) Causey of Libertyville, Scott Van Hoorn of Tremont, Jill (Mark) Behnke of Portage, WI, Greg (Moe) Van Hoorn of Mahomet, and Vanessa (Greg) Olson of Palatine; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Joe Naffziger of Canton, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Beth Naffziger.

Ed was a graduate of Delavan High School, where he was active in sports.

In 1958, the family purchased and remodeled the Liberty School house south of Delavan. On Delavan Rd.

He worked at Fink Chevrolet doing body work for nine years and later owned and operated Eddie’s Autobody in Emden from 1963 until his retirement in 2010.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delavan, a member of Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary’s Men’s Club. He also served on the Delavan Board of Education for 12 years.

Ed enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing cards, bowling, and rebuilding antique cars.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delavan.  Msgr. Gerald Ward will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 am Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Delavan. Everyone is invited to a meal following the burial service at the Stag R Inn in Emden.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
