Elmer G. Papenhause, 90, of Tremont, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
He was born February 17, 1934 in Tremont to Frederick C. and Mabel D. Hoff Papenhause. He married Mary E. Diveley on January 18, 1959 at the Tremont United Methodist Church, and she passed away August 15, 2021.
Surviving are his children, Jim (Michael) Papenhause of Mt. Ephraim, NJ, Karen (Jeff) Koger of Riverton, Janet (Timm) Haller of Troy, and Diana Veihl of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie) Koger, Justin Koger, Alyssa Koger, Laura Sullivan, Rebekah (Colby) Boyd, Lucas (Katie) Haller, Caitlyn (Cody) Varner, Emily (Cruz) Mellon, Christopher Veihl, Caroline (Christian) Sestito; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ina Eckhoff of Tremont and Carol Ewing of Mackinaw; and one sister-in-law, Vivian Diveley of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Eugene, Alvin, and Glen.
Elmer served in the United States Navy for two years.
He worked at ADM in Mapleton as a master mechanic and loved to fish.
He was a member of the Tremont United Methodist Church, where his funeral will be at 11:00 am. Friday, August 30, 2024. Pastor Paul Nolden will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 am Friday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
