Emily Nafziger Obituary

Emily Frances (Stanwood) Nafziger, 93, formerly of Delavan, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, WI. 

She was born August 26, 1929 in Armington to Harold and Verna Unzicker Stanwood. She married Eugene Nafziger on April 17, 1952 in Minier, and he passed away August 29, 2009. 

Surviving are her daughters, Debra (Robert) Becker of Verona, WI, Sue Ellen (Paul) Dolan of Middleton, WI, and Kathy (Scott) Browning of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter-in-law, Meg (Matt) Gent of Seattle, WA; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Jay Stanwood of Santa Anna, CA; one sister, Mae Wilmoth of Anaheim, CA; one sister-in-law, Donna Stanwood of Farmer City. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steve; one brother, Ivan; and two sisters, Mary and Leila. 

Emily attended Mennonite School of Nursing and graduated in 1950.  Her nursing career spanned 36 years retiring from the Tazewell County Health Department in 1986. 

She was a member of the Winnebago owners Winnie Poo Club, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, volunteered at the Cubs spring training stadium in Arizona, volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drives, and was a Girl Scout Leader.  She enjoyed watching and being a part of her grandchildren’s school and extracurricular events. She was known for her pies, baked goods, and candy making. 

She was a member of Hopedale Mennonite Church where her visitation will be from 1 to 2:45 pm Saturday, March 18, 2023, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Mennonite Cemetery in Hopedale.  Pastor Roger Springer will officiate.  There will be a time of fellowship and remembrance back at the church basement following the graveside service. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
