Ernest “Ernie” C. Garber, 87, of Delavan, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his home.
He was born July 29, 1937 in Delavan to Clarence and Florence Krusemark Garber. He married Patty Winter on August 21, 1960 in Mason City, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Michael (Missy Sproston) Garber of New Windsor; two grandchildren, Jason (Danielle) Garber of Hopedale and their children, Derek and Luke, and Ashley (David) Sorensen of Viola and their children, Emilia and Elliot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Garber; one brother, Lawrence; and two sisters, Donna Belle Anderson and Betty Russell.
Ernie graduated from Delavan High School and served in the Army National Guard.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 36 years.
Ernie was a proud Democratic member of the Tazewell County Board for six years and served as a precinct committeeman for over 50 years. He was a little league coach for many years and followed his grandson Jason’s basketball career traveling to many states. He was a Dodgers fan and a die-hard Cubs fan. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and was an avid card player for many years.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Delavan, where his funeral will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 3, 2025. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 am Friday, also at the church. Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan, Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Delavan.
