Gary L. Demeny, 81, of Delavan, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mona, daughter Becky Demeny and Stan Goeken (Dillon), son Rod (Schaumburg), son David (Delavan), grandson James Demeny (Itasca), and granddaughters Casey Herring (Dillon) and Gail Demeny (Hanover Park). He is also survived by his brother Roger (Mary) of Houston, TX; Sandy (Rick) Czachor of Green Bay, WI; Darwin (Linda) of White Bear Lake, MN; Clarice (Roger) Miller of Onalaska, WI; and Chris (Randy) Holewinski of Seymour, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Helen, and one brother, Lee.
Gary was born at home on January 7, 1939 in Krakow, WI. He graduated as valedictorian from Pulaski High School where he excelled in sports and was captain of the football and baseball teams. He earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Gary began his career at DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY, where he met his future wife and started his family. He later worked for Detrex in Ashtabula, OH, before moving to Delavan and joining Caterpillar as a research and development engineer in 1967. He was awarded several patents for his developments in paint systems and consulted for major manufacturers including Ford, PPG, Case-IH, and Cooper Industries.
Gary was an accomplished furniture restorer and collector of antiques. He was passionate about the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Men’s Club in Delavan. He will be remembered for his exceptional work ethic, dry sense of humor, honesty, and dedication to his family.
A private service is planned for family. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
