George Daniel Dirks, 94, of Delavan, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at Carl Health Pekin Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1930 in Boynton Township to Albert H. and Aleida VanHoorn Dirks Sr. He married Lillian Louise Draper on February 5, 1950. He later married Juanita “Peg” Dirks on October 7, 1966, and she passed away November 10, 2009.
Surviving are his children, Cheryl (Steve) Zimmerman of Mason City, Randall Dirks (significant other, Teresa) of Lincoln, and Linda (Gene) Sturch of Delavan; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Marie Witbeck of Illinois and Dorothy DeBord of CT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jimmy; one great grandson, Dylan Sturch; three brothers, Dick, Albert Jr., and Alfred; and three sisters, Gertrude Ross, Nancy Aspeitia, and Annetta Tillman.
George served in the United States army for two years then served in the Marines for four years during the Korean War.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He farmed and retired from Caterpillar Inc. after working for 28 years.
George enjoyed spending time at the American Legion, camping, wintering in Texas, and participating in tractor pulls.
His funeral will be at 11:00 am Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan. Pastor Charles Graul will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 am Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan.
