George Wirth

George William Wirth, 84, of Delavan, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at his home.

He was born May 13, 1940 in Peoria Illinois to William and Dorothy (Schaefer)Wirth. At the age of 13 George was taken in by a supportive family Walter Reel, and Viola Reel. There he had other children he would be with and call Jack Reel, his brother who still survives, and Lois Reel and Mary Lou Reel, his sisters who have passed. He married his soulmate, Miss Donna Ruth (Stephens) on May 23, 1959 in Morton, Illinois, and she survives.  They celebrated 65 incredible years together and had three beautiful children.  Chrystine Lynn (Dave) Scott; Dow Alan (Ginger Ann) Wirth; DeAnn Marie Wirth.  Together they had eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.   He has one surviving sister, Francis (Wirth) Hatch.  George was preceded in death by his older sister Margie (Wirth) Carr.

George proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He has been a dutiful Delavan Post 352 American Legion member for over 43 years. He also was an active worshipful 32nd degree Master Mason with lodge #156 A.F & A.M. for 35 years.

George found joy when surrounded by his family, spending time by the pool, & yard work (especially hours spent on his John Deere).  Annual trips to Scott, Louisiana were a highlight for George and Donna to visit lifelong friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan.  George will receive Masonic Rites following the visitation. Cremation will be accorded following the service.
