Gregory E. Albrecht, 73, of Morton, formerly of Mackinaw, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home.
He was born December 30, 1951 in San Angelo, Texas to Edward and Jean Campbell (Albrecht) Young. He married Janet Watkins, his soul mate of 52 years, on September 9, 1972 in Jerseyville, and she survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Jean Young of Champaign; his children, Mindy (Israel) Kendrick of Pekin, Bridget (Nathan) Joos of Mackinaw, Dana Albrecht of Kelso, WA, and Andrew Albrecht of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren, Kyle (Julia Hurd) Class of Tremont, Noah (Megan) Class of Hannibal, MO, Josh (Megan) Class of Englewood, CO, Samantha Kendrick of Pekin, Autumn Kendrick of Pekin, Logan Joos of North Carolina, Benjamin (Fiancé Drew Rokey) Joos of Deer Creek, Eli Joos of Mackinaw, and Maya Hanson of Kelso, WA; four great grandchildren, Barrett and Vivienne Class, and Weston and Josie Class; two brothers, Mark (Pam) Albrecht of Petersburg, and Jim (Heidi) Albrecht of Williamsburg, VA; and one sister, Janelle Albrecht of Champaign.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Greg graduated from Carlinville High School. He worked in sales and publishing, last owning and operating the Area Buyers Guide for 30+ years.
He served on the Heritage Lake Board, Mackinaw Grade School PTO, Mackinaw Lion’s Club, where he served a term as president, and the Morton Rotary Club, where he served a term as president.
Greg was a spiritual man. A favorite verse he would cite is "As a man thinketh, so is he." He loved his family and his country. Greg taught his children we are fortunate to live in the greatest country in the world. He valued American freedom and once organized a "Freedom Run" 5K race that took place on the U of I campus in the 80s. Greg was an avid collector of Liberty Bells which symbolized his passion for American freedom, independence and the pursuit of liberty and equality.
His funeral will be at 5:00 pm Monday, March 17, 2025 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont. Pastor Jarett Wells will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4:45 pm Monday, also at Davis-Oswald. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
