Gregory Garber Obituary

Gregory R. Garber, 56, of Delavan, passed away at 6:09 am Monday, April 27, 2020 at the home of his parents in Delavan.

He was born July 16, 1963 in Peoria to Ernest C. and Patricia Winter Garber.

Surviving are his parents of Delavan; one brother, Michael D. (Missy Sproston) Garber of New Windsor; one nephew, Jason (Danielle) Garber of Emden; and one niece, Ashley (David) Sorensen of Davenport, IA; one great niece, Emilia Sorensen and one great nephew Elliot Sorensen.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He attended Illinois State University and SIU in Edwardsville.

Greg’s passion was teaching and coaching.  He taught at Midwest Central Middle School in Green Valley for over 25 years, retiring in 2016.  He coached the Midwest Central Junior High Girls softball team and the high school boys wrestling. During the summer months, he was a field inspector for Pioneer Seed Company for over 30 years.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Delavan where he served as Elder. He was a member of the Ayers Public Library Board for several years and was currently a member of Delavan Township Board.

He was an avid golfer, bowler, loved all sports and loved to play cards with all of his friends.  He enjoyed following his nephew’s basketball career.

Cremation has been accorded.  A private family grave side service will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery.  Pastor Justin Schmidt will officiate. A celebration of Greg’s life will be at a later date.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Midwest Central Athletic Booster Club.
