Harold Krusemark Obituary

Harold E. “Boyce” Krusemark, 102, of Lincoln, formerly of Emden, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at The Woods Garden Villas in Lincoln. 

He was born January 10, 1922, rural Emden, to Ernest C. and Clara Hilgendorf Krusemark.  He married Roberta E. Staats on April 21, 1951 in Beason, and she passed away October 17, 2018. 

Surviving are his children, Jim Krusemark of Peoria and Karen (Rich) Yocius of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter-in-law, Denice Krusemark of MO; six grandchildren, Molly (Hayden) Chapman, Andrew (Betsy) Krusemark, Jessica (David) Bates, Erika Krusemark, Richard Yocius, and Mark (Jenny) Yocius; seven great grandchildren, Hank, Henry, Oliver, Sabine`, Nova, J.J., and August Boyce. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lynn; one sister, Florence Garber; three brothers, Elmer, Raymond, and Clarence; and one brother-in-law, Lyle Staats. 

Boyce served in the United States Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946 in both the European Theater and Japan (Pacific Theater). He was recalled for the Korean War from 1951 to 1952 attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He participated in the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2010 with his son, Jim and friend Bill Gossett. 

He received an associate’s degree from Lincoln College then bachelor’s and master’s degree from ISU in Industrial Education. 

He taught in the Hartsburg-Emden School district for 41 years.  From 1962 to 1987, he established and taught industrial arts at Hartsburg Emden High School. Mr. Krusemark shaped many young people’s lives with both their careers and the proper way things should be done. He also drove a school bus for the district for many years. 

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church in Emden, where he served on the council. Boyce was an inaugural member of the Emden Park District, life member of Emden American Legion Post 506, Logan County 40 et 8, and the Central Illinois Card Club. 

Boyce enjoyed RV camping, wood and metal working, gardening, being outside and playing cards. 

His funeral will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Emden.  Terry Davis and Ryan Edgecombe will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Friday, October 25, 2024 and one hour prior to service, both at the church.  Burial with military honors will be in Bethel Cemetery, rural Emden.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements. 

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, The Christian Village in Lincoln, or Hartem Legacy Fund.
