Harold Schilpp Jr.

Harold D. Schilpp, Jr. 88, of Hopedale, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Hopedale Nursing Home.

He was born May 20, 1935 to Harold D. and Iris Lower Schilpp Sr.  He married Ruth “Ruthie” M. Martin on October 31, 1953 in Terre Haute, IN and she passed away April 21, 2008.

Surviving are his children, Harold “Dee” (Barb) Schilpp of Hopedale and Denise (Dan) Wraight Reed of Morton; two grandchildren, Aaron (Jenny) Schilpp of Appleton, WI and Adam Schilpp of Morton; two step-grandchildren, Jay (Lacey) Reed of Morton and Lisa (Vince) Knuffman of Bloomington; two great grandchildren, Abigail and Isaac Schilpp of Appleton, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Bob Wraight; and one sister, Hyla Jane Henderson.

Harold farmed in the Hopedale area for 44 years and owned and operated Schilpp Welding for over 50 years.

He was a member of Hopedale Open Bible Church, charter member of Hopedale Lions Club, member of NITPA tractor pulling, Tazewell County Farm Bureau, and a member of Hopedale Fire Department for over 50 years, where he served as fire chief for 35 years.

He owned a sprint car, “Schiller Special” with Lyle Litwiller.  In his later years he enjoyed NASCAR.

His funeral will be at 10:00 am Friday, March 22, 2024 at Open Bible Church in Hopedale.  Pastor Jason Siebert will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, also at the church.  Entombment will be in Schilpp Mausoleum, rural Hopedale.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopedale Fire Department or Open Bible Church.
