Henry B. “Hank” Herring, 83, of Mapleton, IL, went home to be with the Lord at 9:27 pm on Monday, October 18, 2021, at UnityPoint Health, Pekin.
The youngest of eight children, Hank was born at home in Peoria on November 4, 1937, to Henry A. “Bert” and Lily Mae (French) Herring and grew up in Peoria with his four brothers and three sisters. He married Dorothy Eileen Geiger, his wife of 58 years, on October 20, 1962, in East Peoria, and she preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Lily Mae Herring; his daughter, Rebecca Ann Herring at birth; his brothers, Leonard, Floyd “Sam”, Robert “Bob” and Gerald “Jerry” Herring; his sisters, Johanne Huntley, Mary Thome, and Mildred “Mick” Baker; and his daughter-in-law, Yvette Herring.
He is survived by his three sons, William Herring of Pekin, Robert Herring of Mapleton, and Brian Herring of Pekin; his daughter, Patricia (David) Haymond of Clarksville, TN; and his nine grandchildren, Alayna, Jonathan, Christopher, David, Katherine, and Timothy Herring of Pekin, Rebekah, David, and Lorelei Haymond of Clarksville, TN.
At the age of 12, Hank made the most important decision to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and later felt the Lord calling him into the ministry. He pastored two churches and faithfully preached at the Peoria Rescue Mission for many years. He also loved to sing duets with his wife, especially their favorite hymn “In the Garden”.
Hank was a hardworking, generous, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who would give the shirt off his back if he thought someone needed it. He was a prayer warrior and enjoyed reading his Bible daily. He also enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He is deeply loved and greatly missed by his family and friends, but we know we will see him again.
Hank was a faithful member of the Mapleton Church where his funeral will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 23, 2021, with Pastor Keith Huff officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-10:45 am before the service on Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Peoria Rescue Mission.
