Henry "Hank" Heren III Obituary

Henry “Hank” G. Heren III passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on 24 May 2026.

Hank proudly served his nation in both the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to the United States Postal Service, where he served in multiple leadership positions, including several appointments as Postmaster. He was respected not only for his professionalism and work ethic, but also for the kindness, terrific sense of humor, and steady guidance he provided to those around him. Hank had an eagerness to enjoy life and a gift for making others smile, often bringing laughter and warmth to even difficult moments.

A man of deep Christian faith, Hank lived his beliefs through action. He offered emotional and spiritual support to countless individuals and families facing serious medical diagnoses and difficult circumstances. Drawing from his own experiences and unwavering faith, he became a source of encouragement, hope, and understanding for many. He also worked closely with numerous nonprofit organizations advocating for medical research and patient rights, dedicating his time and energy to helping improve the lives of others.

Above all else, Hank was devoted to his family. He is survived by his son, Henry Heren (wife Karla and daughters Emma and Anna); his daughter, Heather Nordquist (husband Bill); former wife Pamela Heren, mother of Henry and Heather; brother Dieter Heren (wife Sandra); brother Charles Heren; sister Elona Rich (husband Mike); sister Lucette Lohnes (husband Bob); former wife Sharon Heren; stepchildren Jennifer Kenser, Nathaniel (wife Leslie) Kenser and Breanne Kenser; as well as many beloved nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Hildegard Heren; sisters Helen Whisler (husband Harold) and Charles’ wife Elizabeth; and Rosie Fasse; Rosie’s husband Randy survives her.

A celebration of life will be held 11:00 am Saturday May 30, 2026 at Davis Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Hank’s memory are asked to consider supporting the Illinois Rare Disease Alliance, whose work advocates for awareness surrounding rare diseases: http://www.illinoisrare.com
