Irene Hackett, 82, of Emden, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born June 10, 1939 in Emden to Walter and Augusta Koehler Rademaker. She married Joe Hackett on February 22, 1964 in Emden, and he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Gwen (Bill) Boyce of Havana, Beth (Paul) Bryan of Emden, Greg Hackett of Emden, and Josh Hackett of Staunton; six grandchildren, Savanna Hackett of Lincoln, Eli Bryan of Emden, Zach (fiancé Ashley) Bryan of San Jose, Andy (Kierra) Boyce of Pleasant Plaines, Katie (Ben) Dial of Mapleton, and Kellie Boyce of Havana; one brother, Vernon (Sandy) Rademaker of San Jose; niece and nephews, Megan, Matt, Shaun Rademaker all of Emden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tony Hackett; one brother, Roger Rademaker; one sister, Myrna Rademaker; and her first husband, Chuck Birkmeier.
Irene worked at Lehn & Fink in Lincoln, taught high school at Delavan and Green Valley, and worked as a cook at several area bakeries.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden, Ladies Aide, Good Samaritan Circle, taught Sunday school for many years, and served as chair of it’s VBS, and a member of Kogudus Renewal Ministry.
Irene was an avid gardener, a talented baker, loved to shop, sew, and spend time with her grandchildren and attending their athletic events. Most of all, she was deeply rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 20, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden followed by a dinner. Pastors John Schurter and Bill Boyce will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:45 am Saturday at the church. A private family graveside will be in Hartsburg Cemetery in Hartsburg. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
