Janet A. Baxter

Janet A. Baxter, 81, formerly of Mackinaw, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Pekin Manor Nursing Home in Pekin.

She was born October 24, 1942 in Joliet to James V. and Mildred A. Roberts.  She married Eugene Baxter on August 19, 1961 in Keokuk, IA and he passed away on July 7, 2019.  She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are one daughter, Julie (Julia Lunger) Baxter of Urbana; one son, David (Donna) Baxter of Morton; two granddaughters, Amanda Baxter of San Diego, CA and Holly Baxter of Chatham.

Janet worked several years for William J. Dausmann, D.D.S. in Morton.

She was a long-time member of the Mackinaw Garden Club and served as the club’s treasurer.  Along with her husband Eugene, Janet’s passion for gardening was reflected in their large backyard flower garden.  They also enjoyed going to weekend car shows and cruise-ins with their 1939 Chevy 2 Door Sedan.

Honoring Janet’s wishes, there will be no services.  Cremation rites will be accorded.  Burial will be in Mackinaw Township Cemetery.  Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Mackinaw is handling the arrangements.
