Jeanne L. Newlun, 80, of Pekin, formerly of Tremont, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 13, 2022 at her daughter’s home with her children by her side. She battled many illnesses throughout her life and always continued to be a fighter and never gave up.
She was born January 2, 1942 in San Jose to Harold and Mary Sackett Wheat. She married Jerald L. Newlun on January 21, 1961 in Pekin. They had a wonderful 23-year marriage until his untimely death on August 16, 1984.
Surviving are her children, Jeri Christine (Kevin) Dobbelaire of Marquette Heights, Bryan (Penni) Newlun of Hancock, MI, and Gina Kuhn of Pekin; grandchildren, Amanda (Skyler) Hibberd of Pardeeville, WI, Courtney Dobbelaire of Green Valley, Chris (Kristen) Newlun of Erie, PA, Tyler Kuhn of Pekin, and was looking forward to the first great grandchild Newlun due in October; five brothers, Dave (Carol) Wheat of Manito, Danny (Marilyn) Wheat of Lincoln, Jim (Judy) Wheat of Morton, Bill (Kim) Wheat of Topeka, Steve (Deb) Wheat of Fulton; one sister, Sue (Jim) Evans of Tremont; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Teena) Jockisch of Fancy Prairie and Don Miller of Armington; and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Kay Jockisch and Louise Miller; and one brother, Larry Sackett.
She was a former resident of Pekin Manor since January 2014 until August 5, 2022, when she went home to be with family. While at the Manor, she spent her days playing Bingo and made many friendships. She also served as president of the Residential Counsel and was loved by staff and residents.
Jeanne and Jerald were a part of the founding group for Tremont Rescue 702 in 1977. She retired as secretary and coordinator in 1995 and was honored at the Tremont Turkey Festival that year.
Jeanne was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin.
Her passion was her children and grandchildren and gardening at her home in Tremont.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Antioch Cemetery in Tremont. Pastor Simeon Raddatz will officiate. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Jeanne’s life will follow the graveside service at the Tremont Rescue building at 400 E. Pearl St in Tremont. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
