Joanne Mildred Baer, 96, of Tremont, IL, died on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, Illinois.
She was born October 19, 1927, to Louis and Louise Koch in Tremont, IL. She graduated from Tremont High School in 1945, where she excelled in typing and shorthand. She then worked at Caterpillar as a secretary to the chief engineer. She married Daniel E. Baer on April 13, 1957, in Tremont. They lived in Chicago and Decatur prior to settling back in Tremont in 1962.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Dr. Dan Baer and her children, Dr. John (Brenda) Baer and Elizabeth (Duane) Baker, and her sisters, Nancy (Roger) Schweigert and Kay Koch, all of Tremont. Also surviving are five granddaughters, Tressa (Maxwell) Schneider, Rebekah (Matt) Mocilan, Sophia (Jeremiah) Thacker, Anna (Fiancé Josh Norman) Baer, and Adelle Baker, as well as four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Curtis Koch, infant sister Phyllis, and grandson Daniel Baker.
Joanne loved her family, and her grandchildren had her wrapped around their fingers. She was known for being an excellent cook, hostess, and homemaker. She also taught Sunday school and loved to read missionary stories to the children at Northfield Christian Fellowship, where she was a long- time member. She loved all things historical and was a charter member of the Tremont Historical Society.
Joanne‘s funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 19, at NCF in Tremont, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery following. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday, August 18, also at NCF.
Memorial contributions may be made to the NCF Mission Fund, Apostolic Christian Restmor, or the Tremont Historical Society.
