He was born on October 9, 1948, to Everett and Wanda (Jackson) Meredith in Carmi, Illinois. John married Susan Hardy on September 4, 1970, in Mackinaw, she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Phil (Christine) Meredith, daughter Kelly (Eric) Schumm, three grandchildren; Kira (Brian) Meredith-Brake, Levi Schumm, Jonah Meredith, one great-grandchild; Grayson Brake, three brothers; Ron (Cindy) Meredith, Den Meredith, and Terry Meredith, and two sisters; Linda Eggen, and Jane (Gene) Winkler.

A devoted husband, father, Papa and friend, John will be remembered most for his deep love of family, his generous spirit, and his wonderful sense of humor. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren, who adored their "Papa" and always knew they could count on his warm hugs, funny stories, and endless support. A lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, John rarely missed watching a game and loved talking sports with anyone, especially his son Phil.
When he wasn't cheering on his team, he loved to spend time in his workshop, where he turned pieces of beautiful wood into beautiful, handcrafted treasures that he proudly shared with loved ones.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Funeral service for John will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11a.m. at Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Mackinaw. Visitation will be an hour prior, starting at 10a.m. Burial will be at Mackinaw Township Cemetery following the service.
