Joseph Allen Warrick was born August 19, 1945, along with his identical twin brother, James Roman Warrick, to Jesse and Hazel McClister Warrick. The brothers were raised on a 40-acre farm in rural Mackinaw, IL, and attended Deer Creek and Dee-Mack schools, graduating in 1963.
Joe and Jim shared a close bond throughout their lives. Jim passed away at home in 2011, and Joe passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2026.
Joe married Jane Dircks in 1968, and Mackinaw remained home for most of his life. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane; daughter, Kimberly (Paul) Kreft of Knoxville, TN; son, Bradley (Leah) Warrick of Hopedale, IL; granddaughter, Brittany (Brenton) Pawlak of Mackinaw, IL; great-grandchildren, Easton and Wrenlee Pawlak; and sister, Arlita Warrick Harris of Bethany, OK.
Being a great-grandfather brought Joe special joy. Tractor rides around the farm with Easton created treasured memories, and he was so happy to recently welcome his great-granddaughter, Wrenlee, into the family.
Joe began his working years with Ken Trimble Trucking before he and Jim acquired enough land to farm full time. Farming remained an important part of his life, as did trucking. Together, the brothers owned and operated Warrick Bros., a name Joe continued after Jim’s passing.
He proudly served in the Illinois National Guard from 1965 to 1971 and remained deeply involved in his community throughout his life. Joe spent many years with the Mackinaw Fire Department, including 15 years as Fire Chief. He contributed his time to the local ambulance board, served as a Mackinaw Township Trustee, and volunteered with Mack-A-Fest activities and the annual parade. Joe and Jane were honored to be named Grand Marshals, and for years he helped make the Fourth of July memorable by setting off fireworks at Brock Lake. He was also a longtime member of Mackinaw Methodist Church and faithfully served on the church board.
Among Joe’s favorite pastimes were skiing, bicycling, and riding his Harley countless miles with friends. Jane rode her own Harley and led the way—under his direction, of course. The open road and the friendships made along the way brought him great enjoyment.
Joe’s funeral service will be held at Mackinaw Methodist Church on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, October 3, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Mackinaw Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mackinaw Fire Department, 104 W. Madison St., Mackinaw, IL 61755 or the Mackinaw Rescue Squad, 104 W. Madison St., Mackinaw, IL 61755.
