Joyce Winkler Culbertson, 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville, Indiana.
Born on August 1, 1932, in Peoria, Illinois to Dewey and Nora Winkler, she married Robert M. Culbertson, Jr. on August 15, 1953. He passed away on December 30, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Malcolm Winkler; and her son, Scott.
Her survivors include 3 children, Carol Culbertson of Fishers, Indiana; Jean (and Dana) Sutton of Asheville, North Carolina; and Hal (and Rhonda) Culbertson of South Bend, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Boyd Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia; Blake Lewis of Fishers, Indiana; Gabriel Culbertson (and Yixuan Li) of Madison, Wisconsin; Naomi Culbertson of Brooklyn, New York; and Aaron and Carter Sutton, both of Richmond, Virginia; 2 great-grandchildren, Anderson and Henry Lewis, both of Atlanta, Georgia; and 9 Culbertson cats.
Joyce lived in the Delavan area her entire life, and found great joy in her many friends and neighbors. She graduated from Delavan High School in 1950 and from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1954, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was an active member of the Delavan Presbyterian Church, serving as head of the Christian education committee for many years, several terms as elder, and a participant and teacher of the Bethel Bible series. She loved making things with her hands, was an avid seamstress, and dabbled in crafting, knitting, quilting, crocheting, weaving, smocking, upholstering, and ceramics, all while raising 4 kids. She used her crafting skills to help others as a dedicated participant of Delavan Cro-Knits and Threads of Love.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Delavan Presbyterian Church in Delavan, followed by a reception at the church. There will be a private family interment of ashes at Prairie Rest Cemetery, Delavan.
