Justin Allen Godbey was born in Peoria, Illinois on Wednesday, May 10, 1989, to Todd and Stacy (Payne) Godbey. He passed away at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on April 29, 2025, just a few days before his 36th birthday.
Also surviving are his wife Shelby, children Sadie and Wyatt, of the home, parents Stacy and Ralph Coon of Green Valley, Illinois, Todd Godbey of Lincoln, Illinois, Brother Cody (Tiffanie) Godbey of Havana, Illinois, sister Breanna Eddings of South Pekin, Illinois, brother Jeremy Coon of Pekin, Illinois and brother Chris Coon of Humbolt, Tennessee. Grandparents Allen Payne of San Jose, Illinois and Linda Godbey Green of Lincoln, Illinois. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Justin was preceded in death by Grandma Deletta Payne.
Justin graduated from Reeds Spring High School, Reeds Spring, Missouri where he shined playing football on his beloved Wolves football team. He went on to attend Spartan School of Aeronautics where he received his Associates degree in mechanical engineering. Justin began working at American Airlines which was a career he was very proud of.
Justin devoted his life to service. He was a member of the Southern Stone County Fire Protection Explorer program going on to become a full firefighter for the department. Once in Oklahoma he volunteered with his local fire departments. Justin enjoyed serving his community. Fighting fires, responding to car accidents or helping someone who just needed help standing up, he was there.
Justin met the love of his life, Shelby Dashner, and they married in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 5, 2014 and began building a life together that included two beautiful and amazing children, multiple dogs, cats, ducks and even a pig Millie.
Justin was a kind, loving and generous man who could always bring smiles and laughter to anyone he encountered. His kind words and helpful nature brought many people the help they needed at just the right time. He loved to say “Shoot ya, I can fix that” and would jump right in to help.
Justin loved to to be outdoors fishing, boating, swimming, spending time with family and friends, rooting for the Ravens or OU football, or just relaxing in nature. He will be very deeply missed by so many. All who knew him will carry a piece of his spirit in their hearts.
A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Bridgeway Community Church in Pekin at 11:00 am. Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling local arrangements.
