Kathryn Ann “Kay” Steffen, 87, of Morton, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
She was born March 21, 1934 in Grove Township, IA to R.O. Hugh and Leah Strahm Kinsinger. She married Earl Steffen on August 9, 1952 in Elgin, he passed away December 21, 2006.
Surviving are her children, Susan (Mike) Zimmerman and Linda (Dave) Fehr, both of Morton, Dean (Carol) Steffen of Marengo, and Larry (Susan) Steffen of Fraser, CO; 16 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; one brother, William (Sandy) Kinsinger; one sister, Wava (John) Steffen; three sisters-in-law, Gladys (Don) Kaufman, Jeanne (Richard) Stoller and Shirley (Albert) Steffen; one brother-in-law, Dale (Sharon) Steffen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one great granddaughter.
Born in Pulaski, IA, she moved to Elgin, IL when she was 15 years old and graduated from Elgin High School in 1952. She then married the love of her life and moved to Barstow, CA, where Earl was stationed in the Marine Corp. At the age of 21, Kay gave her life to the Lord and began raising her family. She was a homemaker until the children were in school and then she worked as a real estate agent. Later she was a social service director for Highland Oaks in Elgin. In 2001, Kay and Earl moved to Morton to be closer to their daughters. After Earl passed away, she enjoyed volunteering, traveling, and spending time with her family, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.
She was a member of the Elgin Apostolic Christian Church and later the Morton Apostolic Christian Church.
Her funeral will be at 10:00 am Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Apostolic Christian Church in Morton. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Friday and from 9:00 to 9:45 am Saturday, both at the church. A private graveside service will be on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Elgin. The funeral service will also be live streamed via the church’s website, https://www.mortonacchurch.org. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
