Katrina (Maddox) Schurter, 46, of Peoria, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
She was born June 9, 1975 in Peoria to Keith A. and Joyce Barrick Maddox. She married Paul Schurter on September 29, 2007 in Peoria.
Surviving are her mother and step-father, Joyce (Rev. Terry) Krouskoupf of Manteno; one sister, Andrea (Mike) Maddox-Dowling of Florence, SC; one nephew, Aidan Dowling; one uncle, Louis Maddox of Lewistown; one aunt, Janet (Clark) Schweigert of Tremont; one cousin, Ashley (Tom) Jones and their daughter, Finley, of Pekin; and several other cousins; and her beloved cat, Reese.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
Katrina graduated from East Peoria High School, Governor’s State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling.
She worked as a child and adolescent psychotherapist at OSF in Peoria. She loved dearly her young clients and their families. She was a fierce advocate of suicide prevention for young clients.
She loved the outdoors, camping, hiking and bicycling, and vacationing in our National Parks. She hiked the Grand Canyon, rim to rim two years ago.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her outgoing personality and friendliness to everyone she met.
A private family funeral will be on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont. Pastor Stephen Greer will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the service.
