Kenneth M. McCowan, 90, of Pekin, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Hopedale Nursing Home.
He was born October 21, 1934 in Peoria to Roland M. and Mary Ruth “Rosie” Phillips McCowan. He married Burlene Terry on March 24, 1961 in Bartonville, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Rhonda (Herb) Lord of White House, TN and Terry (Teri) McCowan of East Peoria; two grandchildren, Erica (Keith) Hoover of White House, TN and Josh (Annette) McVay of Clarksville, TN; four grandchildren, Jaydon McVay, Emma Hoover, Jace McVay, and Joseph McVay.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kenneth worked at Caterpillar Inc. in Morton for 37 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Morton, where he served as a greeter and was involved with the ground’s maintenance. He was also instrumental in the church’s Bearing Precious Seeds Ministry. He was a member of the Central Illinois Hosta Society. He was the undefeated Rummikub champion.
He loved gardening and yardwork.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Pastor Jonathan Chadbourn will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
