Kenneth Lyle Stuber, 91, of Tremont, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born August 2, 1933 in Tremont to Elmer and Lillian (Pflederer) Stuber. He married Pauline Tomich on November 7, 1954 in Tremont.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline “Pinky” Stuber of Tremont; two sons, Roger (Gwen) and Dale (Dana) Stuber, both of Tremont; three daughters, Beth (David) Stoken of Wheeling, Ann (Tim) Barrow of Tremont, and Nancy (Jon) Feucht of Washington; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, who all loved and adored him. He was a great storyteller, and his grandchildren especially loved his stories about “Stevie Skunk”. One brother, Elwyn “Skip” (Phyllis) Stuber also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dwayne Stuber and sister-in-law, Carol Stuber; one sister, Lois Lucas and brother-in-law, Bob Lucas; and one infant granddaughter, Olivia Stoken.
Ken was drafted into the United States Army from 1955-1957, serving in Italy during peace time. He was assigned a job in the office of an Army medical hospital in Tirrenia, Italy and was fortunate that his wife and infant son were able to join and live there with him for one and a half years.
Ken started a poultry farm at the young age of 14 and raised broilers and laying hens for the next 30 years. In 1982 he retired from farming and started Ken Stuber Builders, building custom homes. He also worked for Entec Services for five years. In 1991, Ken built “Pinky’s” Ice cream Shoppe in Tremont and named it after his beloved wife, Pinky.
He served on the Tremont School Board for 16 years, several as president of the board.
Ken enjoyed all of the work that he was involved in during his life and remained lifelong friends with many of the people for whom he built homes and worked with in the poultry business.
Ken was a member of Northfield Christian Fellowship in Tremont, where he faithfully attended and served his entire life. Even though he taught Bible class and served as an elder in the church, he always recognized the weakness of man and thanked God for salvation through His son, Jesus Christ, and for a home awaiting him in Heaven.
His funeral will be at 11:00 am Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Northfield Christian Fellowship in Tremont. Don Stuber will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday, also at the church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Voice of the Martyrs or Share Closet Building Fund.
