Kent and Linda Hartter Obituary

Kent E. Hartter, 80, of Mackinaw, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria.

 

He was born November 12, 1942 in Pekin to Carl E. and Josephine C. Hancock Hartter.  He married Linda B. Naffziger on October 3, 1970 in Pekin, and she passed away January 1, 2023.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Beth Hartter-Cornell of Windermere, FL and Amy Jo Hartter of Springfield, VA; one grandson, Lucas Cornell; one brother, Carl Lee (Elayne) Hartter of Bradenton, FL; and one sister, Kay (Scott) Stephens of Wickenburg, AZ.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Kent graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in Normal and was a member of the TKE Fraternity.

 

He co-owned Hartter Chevrolet in Mackinaw with his father. He also worked at several other dealerships in the Peoria area.  He was also a partner at Village Buick in Morton.  He finished his career at Lighthouse Buick -GMC.

 

Kent served in the United States Army and was a member of the Mackinaw American Legion.

 

He was a member of the Mackinaw Christian Church, where he served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and Chairman of the Board.  He served as president of the Mackinaw Lion’s Club and competed in the National Sr. Olympics.

 

Funeral services for Kent and his wife Linda, will be at 2:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2023 at Mackinaw Christian Church.  Pastor Judith Thomas will officiate.  Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:45 pm Friday at the church.  Burial will be in Mackinaw Township Cemetery in Mackinaw; military rites will be provided at the graveside.  Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Mackinaw is handling the arrangements.

 

Memorials may be made to Mackinaw Rescue Squad or Peoria Rescue Ministries.

Linda Beth Hartter, 75, of Mackinaw, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria.

She was born August 27, 1947 in Pekin to Robert and Fern Irene Henderson Naffziger.  She married Kent E. Hartter on October 3, 1970 in Pekin and he passed away December 29, 2022. 

Surviving are two daughters, Beth Hartter-Cornell of Windermere, FL and Amy Jo Hartter of Springfield, VA; one grandson, Lucas Cornell.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Linda graduated with a master’s degree in Education from Bradley University.

She taught at Grundy School in Morton for 40 years.

Linda was an accomplished musician and began playing the piano at the age of 3.  She was a member of Melody Maids in Pekin and had won the John Phillips Susa Award at Pekin High School.

She was a member of Mackinaw Christian Church where she was very active playing piano and organ at the church.

Funeral services for Linda and her husband, Kent will be at 2:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2023 at Mackinaw Christian Church.  Pastor Judith Thomas will officiate.  Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:45 pm Friday at the church.  Burial will be in Mackinaw Township Cemetery in Mackinaw.  Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Mackinaw is handling the arrangements.
