Kim Mitchell Obituary

Kim L. Mitchell (Henneberg) passed away on October 10, 2022 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL having lived a life full of family, ministry, generosity, and joy.

Kim was born in Peoria, IL on September 9, 1956 to Wilbur and Wynona Henneberg. She married her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Dan Mitchell, in Mackinaw, Il on May 29, 1976.

Dan and Kim made their home by Heritage Lake in Mackinaw, where they raised their children and hosted many years of family gatherings. Whether she was hosting family hot dog roasts (even though she didn't like hot dogs) or organizing family fish fries (even though she didn't like fried fish), you could always expect three things: a pitcher of sweet tea, a thoroughly decorated gathering place, and a big warm hug from Kimmy.

Kim loved entertaining her grandkids, nieces, and nephews with relay races, egg hunts, Princess dress-up, afternoon tea, and sledding parties with hot chocolate n’ marshmallows. Her family loved to gently tease her about how she’d laugh and cry at the same time when she got particularly sentimental—usually at family gatherings, and especially at Disney World.

Kim was so good at taking care of others, she made it her profession, spending much of her career in the medical field as a Nursing Technician. When in the neighborhood, you could find her enjoying the porch's lake view while quilting with her mom or getting lost in a great book for hours on end.  It wasn't unusual to spot her tooling around in her eyelash-wearing golf cart, or using Pop’s (her dad) mower to “mouse” off the grass a couple times a week (whether it needed it or not). After retirement, Kim put her skills to use volunteering at the food bank and working closely with Judah International Ministries, who plan to erect a playground in memory of Kim and her dedication to the church.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Henneberg; Elizabeth and Glenn Mitchell (mother-in-law and father-in-law) and her son-in-law, Chris Galloway.  Surviving are her siblings Bryon Henneberg (Jan) in Mackinaw and Kerry (Jayne) Henneberg of Bloomington, IL and her four children Lori Galloway of Delavan, Justin (Emily) Mitchell of Spesbach, Germany, Eric (Theresa) Mitchell and Dean (Adreanne) Mitchell of Mackinaw.  Memories of their grandma will be cherished by her eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Judah Prep. Academy, PO Box 410, Mackinaw, IL 61755.

Visitation and services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am at Judah International Ministries located at 31506 Fast Avenue, Mackinaw IL.  Mark Dubois will officiate.
