LaVerne Minton Obituary

Margaret LaVerne Minton, 88, of Delavan, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Pekin Manor. 

She was born May 28, 1935 in rural Easton to Adolph and Esther Jones Nehmelman.  She married Roger L. Minton on October 6, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Delavan, and he passed away May 1, 2020.

Surviving are her children, Tom Minton of Hopedale and Teresa Minton of Delavan; one brother, Robert Nehmelman of Pekin; and two sisters-in-law, Myra Nehmelman of East Peoria and Etta Nehmelman of Green Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald, Harold, Ted, Adolph Jr, Ralph, Ray, and Lawrence; and sisters-in-law, Donna, Carol, Mary Jane, Jose, Orsie, and Doreen.

The Nehmelman family moved to Delavan when LaVerne was in the 8th grade.  After high school, she worked at State Farm Insurance Company in Bloomington for several years until the children were born.  She sold cosmetics for several years and worked with her husband at the gas station and auto parts store, including the ice cream store.

She was a member of the Delavan American Legion Auxiliary, was a Girl Scout leader for several years, and served as a room mother at the Delavan School. LaVerne and Roger also worked part-time at the funeral home in Delavan.

She enjoyed flowers, painting, NASCAR fan, and would go with Roger to the car races.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan.  Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan.
