Larry Ackerson

Larry D. Ackerson, 79, of Armington, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

He was born June 8, 1945 in Bloomington to George Eugene and Dorthy Mae Johnson Ackerson.  He married Joyce Burkhart on July 14, 1981 in Bloomington, and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Christina; and four sons, Jeff, Marty, Troy, and Chet; and one brother, Jim (Barb) Ackerson of Stanford.

Larry was raised in Stanford and graduated from Stanford Schools. After high school, he joined the Navy from 1965 to 1968.  He worked at Caterpillar Inc from 1963 to 2001.

He was a member of the American Legion. 

In his youth, Larry showed enthusiasm in the outdoors by engaging in fishing and hunting.  Later on in life, he shared his interests in camping, boating, stock car racing and horses with family and friends.  Larry also enjoyed classic cars, antique farm equipment, local history, St. Louis Cardinals games on the radio and sharing stories with family and friends.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Hieronymus Cemetery  3075 McLean Rd Armington, IL. There will be no visitation. Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Minier is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hittle Township Rescue Squad or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
