Lorene M. Good, 94, formerly of Armington, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Serenity Assisted Living and Memory Care in East Peoria.
She was born September 15, 1929, in Hopedale to Orrin and Beatrice Slabaugh Nafziger. She married Walter Good on June 17, 1950, in Hopedale, and he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Elaine (Dale Bachman) Good of Putnam, Wendell (Sharon) Good of Pekin, Darrell (Martha) Good of Elmhurst, Joanne (John Yoder) Good of Wheaton, and Jeannette (Brian) Zeigler of Pendleton, IN; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Ellen Walson; two brothers, Lloyd Nafziger, and E. Wayne Nafziger; and granddaughter, Amanda Good.
Lorene attended Goshen College and ISU receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught English as a second language for McLean-Dewitt Regional Office of Education at Bloomington-Normal Libraries. She was an elementary teacher in Delavan and in Minier Grade Schools.
She was an active member of Hopedale Mennonite Church, Midway Mennonite Church, and Roanoke Mennonite Church. She taught Bible School, Sunday School, was superintendent of Christian Education, and served as Elder at the Hopedale Mennonite Church. She served with Service Opportunities for Older People (SOOP) in Tuscan, AZ for 20 years.
Her funeral will be at 10:00am Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Hopedale Mennonite Church in Hopedale. Pastor Jolene Miller and Pastor Jessica Litwiller will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday at the church. Burial will be in Hopedale Mennonite Cemetery.
