Mary Ethel Papenhause, 82, of Tremont, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria.
She was born December 17, 1938 in Peoria to Vernie E. and Margaret P. Roath Diveley. She married Elmer G. Papenhause on January 18, 1959 at Tremont United Methodist Church, and he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Jim (Michael) Papenhause of Mt. Ephraim, NJ, Karen (Jeff) Koger of Riverton, Janet (Timm) Haller of Troy, and Diana (Neil) Veihl of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie) Koger, Justin Koger, Alyssa Koger, Laura Sullivan, Rebekah (Colby) Boyd, Lucas (Katie) Haller, Caitlyn Veihl, Emily (Cruz) Mellon, Christopher Veihl, Caroline Veihl; seven great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Vivian Diveley of Pekin, Ina Eckhoff of Tremont, Carol Ewing of Mackinaw, and Margaret Papenhause of Tremont.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Vernice R. Diveley.
Mary was a bank teller at PNC Bank in Morton for 15 years.
She was an active member of Tremont Methodist Church and its Methodist Women, participated in preparing funeral dinners for many years, was active in the children’s after school program, and was the church representative for Jackie Joyner Kersee .
She enjoyed volunteering with the Sr. Meals and was a member of the Quad Niters Home Extension.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 am Friday, August 20, 2021 at Tremont United Methodist Church. Pastor Larry Frank will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 am Friday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
