Maverick Feilner Obituary

Maverick James Feilner, 12, of Tremont, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

He was born February 16, 2013 in Peoria to Glenn Feilner Jr. and Amanda Goeken.

Surviving are his parents, Amanda (Jason) Hester of Tremont and Glenn “Junior” Feilner of Bartonville; three half-siblings; several grandparents and three great grandmothers; his older German sister (foreign exchange student) Lisa; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; his three cats, Athena, Xena, and Punky; and his dog, Rhea.

He was preceded in death by his great grandfather, John Goeken.

Maverick attended Tremont Middle School, where he finished the 6th grade.  He played the saxophone and keyboard and was also learning the bass guitar. He had aspirations to become a marine biologist.

He never met a stranger and had a huge heart for anyone and everyone.

Maverick loved to sing and was an avid music lover, listening to anything from the 80’s to the current popular groups. He was the Lego “master builder” spending hour after hour constructing many objects.  His most recent accomplishment was building a 4,000-piece McLaren P1.

He was a collector of Pokémon cards, an avid video gamer, enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, helping his dad work on cars, and an animal lover.  He was a traveler, where he went on a Mexican Cruise and visited 14 other states. He also loved to bake, often borrowing ingredients from the neighbors. He was a huge supporter of the University of Connecticut Men’s Basketball, where he was planning on attending the November 28, 2025 game in New York City.

Maverick was diagnosed with Leukemia in July of 2024. He truly was a warrior and entered into remission in late December. He never stopped fighting and was a true inspiration. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the St Jude Clinic and the OSF Children’s Hospital 6th floor nurses.

Cremation has been accorded.  A visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:45 pm Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont, followed by a celebration of Life at 4:00 pm.  Chaplin Deb Otis will officiate. Friends and family attending are encouraged to wear their “Team Mav” shirts  or bring a Lego flower or a special rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or TAPS.
