Michael (Mike) Marion Scott, 69, of Hephzibah, Georgia, formerly of Delavan, went to be with his Lord on October 18, 2021.
He was born July 20, 1952 at Camp Cook, Lompoc, California to Marion Jean Scott and Patricia Joanne White Scott.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher Michael (Jodi) Scott of Buffalo Grove, Illinois and Dennis Jean (Jeanne) Scott, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, five grandchildren, Justin Scott, Alex Scott, Tristan Scott, Barbara Sue Scott, and Desmond Scott. Also surviving are his mother, Patricia Joanne Scott-Hammond, step-father, Cecil Hammond of Delavan, sister, Susan (Joseph) Gibes of San Jose, California, brother, Steven B. (Sandra) Scott of Delavan, sister, Julie L. Harris of Pekin, and brother, David (Chrystine) Scott of Delavan, uncle and aunts, William S. (Jeanette) Scott, Betty S. Weyhrich, and Rita L. Scott, many nieces, nephews, cousins, his former wife, Susan A. Cassidy Scott, and his extended family in Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Jean Scott, his sister, Jill M. Fogliano, his maternal grandparents, Lt. Col. Virgil E. and Josephine White of Delavan, his paternal grandparents, William S. and Clara S . Scott of Green Valley, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He attended Delavan Grade and High School, graduating in Delavan’s Class of 1970. After graduating, he worked at Farm Service prior to being the last young man to be drafted by the United States Army in Tazewell County. He was a twenty (20) year Veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring in 1992, and during that time he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Heidelberg Germany, Fort Detrick, MD, Seoul Korea and Fort Gordon Georgia. After retiring from the Army he made his home in Grovetown, Georgia not far from Fort Gordon and worked construction for many years with Beers Construction in Georgia. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Delavan and attended Faith Outreach Christian Church in Hephzibah, Georgia where he was very active and committed to their food and clothing give-a-ways. As a lifetime member of the Delavan American Legion Post #382, he participated in their activities when he was in Delavan. He loved fishing, hunting, and during his Army career was a proficient bowler and golfer. He never knew a stranger and was always the first to lend a helping hand. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Delavan. Pastor Charles Graul will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the church, followed by a dinner. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
