Minnie I. Atkins, 92, of Minier, formerly of McLean, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski, IL.
She was born on July 28, 1931, in Minier to Charles and Selma (Pleines) Knobeloch. Minnie married Robert Atkins on August 27, 1950, in Minier. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1971.
Minnie was also preceded in death by her son, Dale Atkins; two daughters, Patricia Zwanzig and Randie Troxel; five brothers; two sisters; and a great-grandchild, Dylan Zwanzig.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Robert McLaughlin, Anthony Zwanzig, and Brandy (Tim) Struck; 10 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews whom she loved all so dearly.
Minnie was an avid bowler and enjoyed dancing and playing cards with her best friends Cliff and Donna Struck. She could often be found sound asleep in her recliner with a baby in her lap. She was giving, caring, and always eager to lend a helping hand. Minnie gave up retirement and a life of travel to raise her grandkids after tragedy struck. There was so much sorrow as she watched her kids and siblings called home before her. Family was everything to her and she loved her extended family just as much as her immediate family. She did everything to hold everyone together and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A funeral service for Minnie will be at 12pm Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Minier. Pastor Jim Webster will officiate. Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the funeral home. Minnie will be laid to rest at the Minier Cemetery following the service. The family has arranged for at luncheon at Minier Christian Church, where Minnie was a long-time member.
