On Monday, January 2, 2023, Morning Star Lawton (Major) got her wings and walked with the angels. She was ninety-eight years old. She was married to Lee R. Lawton and gave birth to four daughters, Harlene, Dorothy, Tajmahal, and Judea; two sons, LaRoi Miguel, and Lee. She is survived by two daughters, Tajmahal and Judea, and two sons, Lee and Miguel. She also has four grandchildren, Autumn, Joshua, Rashene, and LaRoi Michael, and three great grandchildren Logan, Landon, and Lucas.
When Dorothy’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was customary for women to stay home with children while their husbands worked. But even by those standards during that era, our mom was the exception to that rule. She cared deeply for her family in her own way and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help. She regularly brought meals to the home of sick neighbors. And she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 10:00 am at Swan Lake Memory Garden in Peoria, Illinois where she will be laid to rest near her middle daughter, Dorothy V. Lawton.
She was a strong women and endured to the end.
