Raymond Edwin Potter, 69 of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on May 5, 2026, at Methodist Hospital.
Born in Peoria, Illinois on January 1, 1957, Ray graduated from Morton High School.
He spent over 40 years as a Commercial Mechanic. He loved racing and spending time working on cars and motorcycles and playing with his dog Frankie.
Ray was preceded in death by his father Edwin; his mother, Lilah; his stepfather, Ron; his brother, Ed; and his nephew, Shane.
He is survived by his son, Matt Potter; his siblings, Phyllis Moore and Beverly Rogers; and nieces and nephews, Krystal, Josh, Marty, Sarah, Carrie, Nicole, Nathan and Jeremy.
Ray will be remembered for bringing joy to race fans at the Peoria Speedway winning Rookie of the Year in 1980 among many other awards. On the day his son was born he arrived late to the track, set the quick time in a single lap, won the heat and won the feature. He constantly was fixing and building things and would go out of his way to help others in need.
