Richard Paul Burt of Minier, a baptized child of God, was born September 7, 1944. His parents were Paul and Mildred Frantz Burt. On November 30, God, whom he loved, called him home to heaven at the age of 79. He was residing at the Hopedale Nursing Home.
Dick attended Armington Grade School, Hittle Township High School, Lincoln College, and Illinois State University. He married Anne Cross on August 21, 1965 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden. She survives as well as two sons, Gary (Melissa) and Garland (Julie). Dick was blessed with five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Colby, Noah, Emma, Owen, and Evan. He is also survived by one sister, Carol Winkler of Paris, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Steve; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Donna; and nephew, Galyn.
Dick began teaching and coaching at Hopedale High School in 1966 and continued at Olympia High School when it opened in 1972. He retired from Oly in 1999 and continued painting with his coaching friends.
Sports played a big role in Dick’s life. He was involved in various sports as a player, a coach, and later as a spectator. He was a diehard Cubs fan and loved sprint car racing, fishing trips to Balsam Lake, and most of all, his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Minier Christian Church. Pastor Jim Webster will officiate. Lunch will follow. Burial was in Oak View Cemetery in Armington. Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Minier is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to Minier Christian Church to the Hopedale Nursing Home.
