Richard D. Tarter

Richard Duane Tarter, age 88, passed away peacefully. He was born on March 18, 1937, in Normal, Illinois, to Juanita and Clifford Tarter of Hopedale.

Richard grew up on his parents’ farm in rural Hopedale, Illinois.  He graduated from Hopedale High School and then went on to earn an associate degree from Illinois State University.  After ISU he went on to a long and dedicated career at State Farm, where he worked for more than 40 years.

In 1957, Richard married Joyce Wittmuss. 

In his free time, Richard enjoyed building and flying RC airplanes, boating, and working with cars.  He also had his pilots license and enjoyed flying.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Richard is survived by his sons, Greg (Julie) Tarter of Hopedale and Jeff (Gina) Tarter of Bloomington; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont on January 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
