Richard L. Woods, 88, of Delavan, passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
He was born in Beardstown, Illinois, to Rose Garland. He married Carolyn J. Alberts on October 5, 1957, in Pekin, Illinois and She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Janet (David Kellenberger) White of Chillicothe, James Woods of Delavan, and Jody Woods of Delavan; two grandchildren whom they raised, Rebekah (Shaun) Rodriguez of Rock Island and Joshua (Jamie) Logan of San Jose; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is further survived by one sister, Janet Hicks of Florida; one niece; and two nephews; son-in-law Larry Zieglowsky of Mason City and family friend, Diana Kraus of Delavan.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Woods; his mother, Rose Garland; an infant brother, William Leroy; two daughters, Judy Zieglowsky and Mary Owens; and two grandsons, Nathan Knop and Mitchell Woods.
Richard served in the National Guard for nine years. He worked as a truck driver for over 50 years and, after retiring, continued helping local farmers throughout the years. Known by his handle “Prairie Dog,” He also drove a school bus for Delavan School. Richard was a Bible student of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
There will be no services. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
