Robert “Bob” L. Henninger, 96, formerly of Delavan, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at Villas of Hollybrook in Rantoul.
He was born December 27, 1925 in Peoria to Ralph C. and Lelah Gray Henninger. He married Mary B. Allen on May 4, 1957 in Delavan, and she passed away October 27, 2017.
Surviving are his children, Ann (John) Reale of Rantoul and Robert “Rob” W. Henninger of San Jose; one grandson, Jeffery Reale of Rantoul; and his beloved cat, Romeo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant brother, John Francis.
Bob graduated from San Jose High School and with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the United States Marine as 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War.
He farmed in the Delavan and San Jose area his entire life.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delavan, where he served as elder. He was a member of the Delavan American Legion Post 382, 68-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite, member of Tazewell County Board where he served as secretary, served on the Delavan Co-op/Taloma Grain board, where he served as president, was a lifetime member of Farmhouse Fraternity, and was a Republican precinct committeeman in Delavan.
He enjoyed playing card games, loved country western music, antique tractors, and was a die-hard Cubs, Bears, and University of Illinois Fighting Illini fan.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars or Alzheimer’s Association.
